When first published Adela Florence Nicholson [aka Laurence Hope] claimed that these poems were translations from traditional Indian songs. Subsequently when it was discovered that the poems were actually original work it caused quite a scandal in Victorian Britian due to there explicit sexual content.This 1914 edition comes beautifully illustrated by Brian Shaw.
